Bertha’s watercolor paintings are whimsical, colorful, bright, vibrant, soulful, playful, expressive and extraordinary. They will pull at your emotions.

If you have an interest in pet portraits, wild African animals, characters found in parks, an assortment of birds, be ready for a delightful reaction. The people paintings communicate emotion through line, expression and color. They are intimate glimpses into strangers lives. Animal paintings can both shock and delight as their intelligence and awareness is captured in their eyes. Can you imagine a goldfish looking wise? A Zebra benevolent or a dog looking skeptical? Bertha’s art is a blend of realism, whimsey and impressionism and highly colorful. Possibly Van Gogh style? The intention of her art is to warm your heart and put a smile on your face. Enjoy.

Karen “Bertha” Evans Calderon is a self-taught artist and photographer. She loves the challenge of painting living creatures to catch the Spirit of their Souls. Born in San Francisco and living in Ajijic, Mexico with her husband David. Painting is the creative challenge needed after a career in Nursing. 7 grandchildren keep her young.
